GL Communications' software-based SIGTRAN protocol decoder is a VoIP testing tool that permits real-time analysis, call trace, capture and filter of SS7 and ISDN signalling messages over IP protocol.  SIGTRAN uses a new connection oriented transport protocol called Stream Control Transport Protocol (SCTP - RFC 2960).  SCTP is at the same level, but more efficient at transport than, TCP, UDP, or RTP.  Analyser supports SCTP, M2UA, M3UA, M2PA, SUA, TUA, IUA, ISUA, SIGTRAN protocols.

Tests Performed

GL's software SIGTRAN application provides the option to analyse SIGTRAN messages in real-time and offline.  With real-time analysis, it can record the entire traffic or the filtered traffic into a trace file up to the capacity of the hard disk or provides a circular buffer technique.  The recorded trace file can be analysed offline, exported to ASCII file or printed.  The Real time filtering can be done with the help of capture filter option for M2UA, M2PA, M3UA and SUA frames.

Summary

GL have used their experience as a proven expert of decoding SS7 within the WAN environment to provide a quick and efficient solution for analysing the newer Sigtran protocol.  Providing all the filtering and analysis that you would expect of an SS7 analyser, but over IP, the GL Sigtran analyser is a must have for anyone involved in maintaining Sigtran Links.
